Brown Contacts FAQ

Buying colored contacts can be kinda tricky and maybe even a little nerve racking if it’s your first time. There are a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings when it comes to colored contacts, with brown contact lenses being no exception.

If you are looking to buy the perfect pair of brown contacts then you might have a few basic questions you need answered before you actually seal the deal. Here we will go over some of the most common questions and problems when dealing with brown contacts, but the information here really goes for all colors.

How long will brown colored contacts last?

The short answer is that it depends. It can depend totally on the style and manufacturer you are buying them from. Since brown contacts will most commonly be extended wear natural shades, you will have an easier time finding them that will last just as long as regular prescription contact lenses. If you do go for the more theatrical styles those will usually last anywhere from a few months to a couple years. With those, it often makes a big difference on how many times you use them, and how good you take care of them when you aren’t wearing them. It’s not unusual to have some brown contacts made for costumes last for a few Halloweens. As always, you should consult with the company or Dr. you are getting the contacts of to get the straight facts.

Can I sleep in my brown contacts

Again, this goes back to whether or not you are getting theatrical/costume brown contacts or regular prescription (extended wear) brown contacts. There have been quite a few studies on whether *any* contact lenses at all are good to wear while sleeping and I’ve seen it go both ways. I would say from my experience and research I would say if the manufacturer says that it’s okay to sleep in them, I would do it and not worry but no more than a couple days. There really should be no reason you can’t take them out and clean let them soak every couple or few days anyways.

Will brown contacts work on my eye color?

One of the most common questions is whether a certain colored contact will work on a specific colored eye. The short answer is yes, you can find pretty much any color you want, to fit any color eye you have, it just will vary in how well it works, and the type that you need. The lighter your eye, the easier it is to color. If you have really dark brown eyes, you will have by far the best luck at totally colored dark contact lenses, and not too much the natural shades of blue and green, etc. Most places you can buy brown contacts from will have a good chart that shows what works best for what. When in doubt, you can always contact them.
